During the HCG diet, you cannot eat canned veggies and dried fruits. Do not eat foods that already go through processing such as drying, preservation, fermentation, etc. It’s because it can affect the HCG in your system. Why you cannot eat canned veggies and dried fruits on the VLCD?
Canning includes having preservatives in the process. Canned foods are already high in salts which can lead to health risks. Eating canned vegetables creates problems in your weight and health. It’s because of the preservatives of the food that can affect the HCG. A vegetable that undergoes canning also contains sugar and harms your body. Aside from adding your weight, it can also spike up your blood sugar levels.
Drying also is a harmful process of food. It’s because this process already includes adding sugar and preservatives. The process of drying fruits also degrades the fiber content of each food product. This means that it will become unhealthy for you aside from the sugar that is present on it. Eating dried fruits can cause gas, bloating, diarrhea, and constipation. It also affects your blood sugar and sodium levels.
The disadvantages of canned veggies and dried fruits on the HCG diet
- High in sodium- foods that undergo canning contains high levels of sodium. Although salt helps in food preservation it also has a disadvantage in your body. High levels of sodium may lead to water retention during Phase 2 of the HCG diet. Water retention is the cause of weight loss stall or weight gain. Avoid foods that undergo canning or foods that contain MSG, and sodium citrate.
- High in sugar– fruits and vegetables that undergo processing contain heavy sugar syrups. Drying of fruits uses sugar syrups to improve the taste and makes it more edible. Sugar can increase your calorie intake which is harmful during the VLCD. It can also add carbs and reduces the nutritional value of the fruit.
- Fewer nutrients- fruits and veggies become less nutritious when they are already undergoing processing. Canning or drying fruits and veggies will degrade important nutrients such as potassium and fiber. During the cooking and canning, the food nutrients are already gone. Choose healthy food choices instead of consuming the foods that undergo processing.
- Lack of varieties- Canned veggies or dried fruits only has fewer varieties. It is because other fruits and veggies can lose their flavor when canned. Thus, you will only have fewer choices compared to fresh food products. Choose to have fresh and organic food products. It’s because it is more nutritious and healthy than the processed ones.
